This Is How We Roll…
And what better way to start, than to go back in time…
When I dragged the kids to an embarrassing amount of Easter Egg Hunts.
Can you find The Boy Child?
…. Where she had more fun than the kids did.
Even though she got herself stuck to a velcro wall.
That was a bit much for us, so next time we just went to the movies.
Especially The Guy.
One evening, the kids even pretended that they were camping outside.
My poor kids are so camping neglected, that they think you need to take a lawn mower to clear your space, and lug your entire gas grill there so you don’t starve to death.

Another weekend, we went with a group of friends to a touch-a-tractor event. The Boy Child spent hours climbing on twenty or so different tractors, until he settled into the kid’s play area and we eventually had to pry him away for dinner.

The Boy Child deserved to have a good time though, because he’s had a lot of medical procedures this month.
It wasn’t fun, yet I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a good laugh out of him being given Versed before anesthesia, and watching him get loopy as hell. Here he is using the TV remote as a telephone, to talk to the cartoon characters in the TV, and ask them to come out and play with him.
Thankfully a lot of the testing has been able to be done at home, so that we could continue on with our lives.
We even took him and all of his wires, to go feed the ducks.
And somehow we got talked into taking the kids paddle boating while we there.
I have to say though, after all those family days, it was nice to get a break from the kids and hit the Comedy Club with my In-Law friend, and our husbands.
Speaking of animals, The Girl Child has been thrilled to take our ferrets Frank and George outside to enjoy the weather.
The Guy and I continued to fit in little breaks where we could.
And a trip to a nearby nature center.
We’ve also done a few bigger things, such as head to the Kalahari in Wisconsin for Easter. We’d gotten a gift card for our Wedding, and having no family to spend Easter with, a little getaway sounded marvelous!
Unfortunately I got very sick on this trip and ended up in the hospital, but not before we had at least one great night!
The Boy Child on the other hand, did not find the go-karts at the hotel to be very relaxing.
… and ovaries! Or whatever the hell they were actually supposed to be. A sword and… a pacifier? No clue. Flower maybe?
Speaking of birthdays, I had one!
The Girl Child made me a card, got me lipstick, because “you love lipstick!” and coins, because “grown-ups love getting money in their cards!”
Gosh, I really am proud of how I’m raising that kid.

In other news, we had an event to go to one night…
… And The Guy wore this snazzy jacket!
While we were there, I snapped my favorite photo in this whole post, (nearly) my entire blog “cast!” Here is myself, my In-Law friend, The Platonic Hubby, The Guy, and Mr. Attorney Man!!
If only Frisbee Boy’s Mom, and a couple of friends, could have been there to complete the picture.
The next morning found The Guy sleeping like this. He said his head was cold.
So yes, we’ve definitely had a lot of medical trials over the last few weeks, but life didn’t stop. It kept moving, and we moved with it, and looking back with a fresh perspective, it looks like we were pretty happy.
In fact, I hadn’t even noticed something so obvious until just now.
Yes, The Boy Child has been sick, but The Girl Child, has been amazing! Do you see her wheelchair in any of those pictures?
Because I don’t.
This last round of therapy, combined with a growth spurt that seemed to add some muscle on her, has done her body well! Last summer, we took her chair with us anytime we knew she would be walking for more than fifteen minutes straight, but it just dawned on me that we haven’t needed to do that in several months!
So life, it’s a funny thing really, and I’m realizing more and more that it’s not a sink or swim type of deal.
Sometimes, you just need to kick back and float.
And I guess, if I can’t swim against the current right now, then this isn’t the worst place to float.
Glad you've been able to see some of the good moments. They can balance out the bad ones, if we will look for them. 🙂
True that sister, true that.
You are soo positive!! I love that.
Oh, it comes and goes lol, as you have seen. But thank you for noticing my upswing lol !
Seeing your little family doing some fun positive things amidst the frustrating medical ones is so uplifting. Way to go! And congratulations on the girl child not needing her wheelchair! That's fantastic! We've been getting ready for school to get out and discovering I'm allergic to soy which is in all the food stuff. Luke chocolate. Oh well. Life moves on.
Aw, thank you 🙂
Oh no on the soy 🙁 Soy is in everything! Have you tried Enjoy Life chocolate bars or chocolate chips? I can’t vouch for them personally because I’m too chicken to try one, but my kids eat them as if the world was ending, and they are soy free.
Just a thought!
Love!!!
Yay!

Planting vegetables and flowers, and enjoying being outside. [picture]
This tiny guy – he was orphaned at 8 days old. My friend Liz adopted him but she works 8 hour shifts. So my housemate Deirdre and I day sit for him while she is at work. Here's when he first arrived – see how bitty. [picture]
And here he is, older. He's about 6 weeks now. 🙂 His name is Umbreon, after a Pokemon character. [picture]
Life in general – work, taking care of my parent's incontinent dog while they are on vacation (and my incredibly needy pup), and trying to convince my husband why buying a house is a good idea right now. Not to mention the extracurriculars – tap dance classes, teaching CPR to new city EMTs, and trying to find time to spend with friends. Followed your blog for a while now; coming out of lurking.
Working as many hours possible as my ex husband keeps taking me back to court. I want our daughter to attend a school that ranks 49th in the state and he wants her to go to school where it ranks 200. Because it's more convenient for him. Our limited case manager ruled in my favor so naturally the ex is fighting it. Heres a pic of my baby girl. [picture]
you have exceptionally white teeth. Hiw did you have that if you don't mind me asking?
I use a box of crest white strips once a year or so, but I think a lot of it is that I don’t drink coffee or red wine. Or maybe I just got lucky?
Love ur blog 2 thumbs up!!!!!!!
*hugs*
